Community Gardens

Gardens are in full swing!

More than 5,000 volunteers are needed to create and maintain beautiful flower gardens to enhance communities of all sizes and locations throughout 19 Pennsylvania counties.

WPC’s community gardens are seen by an estimated 3.5 million motorists a day, based on PennDOT statistics. Each year, more than 250,000 flowers are planted by volunteers — enough to make a flowerbed stretching from Pittsburgh to the West Virginia border.

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy partnered with the Mount Washington Community Development Corporation to develop a “Master Implementation Plan” for managing Mount Washington’s green spaces.

Become a Community Cultivator!

Get together with your neighbors, meet other garden lovers, and make your community more beautiful! Volunteering to plant a Conservancy community garden is a wonderful way to make a difference.

Planting day can be a great family experience or a fine outing for your group or organization. We plant rain or shine, primarily on weekends in May, and most plantings take about 4 hours to complete. No prior experience or skill needed!
